My adventure with Ubuntu.....

Although I've had Linux installed for a few months now, I haven't really experimented with it much. However, I'm determined to 'get stuck in'...........

I have a Vista / Ubuntu dualboot Toshiba Equium laptop. Admittedly I have been using Vista as my prime system which hasn't really encouraged my exploration of Ubuntu.....so....with that in mind I now have Ubuntu as my first booting system.

Anyway....let much playing around ensue !

Got as far as trying to get BBC iPlayer working - but without success. I have installed the list of restricted drivers etc (as detailed in this fortnight's Computer Active - which is doing a noobs using Linux series at the moment), tried Realpayer, etc, but still no success. Any thoughts ?

Got Wireshark, Pidgin, GnuPrivacy and a few other things working now too - I did manage to get Google Earth on here, but it wouldn't get past the splash screen....so don't know what's wrong there.

I've also got hold of a 'How to program with Linux' book - so will use that coupled with very limited experience of using Unix in order to see what else I can do.

I also managed to 'do my bit' for Open Source by installing OpenOffice on a few PCs for other people.

So, better don my shades.....the future's gonna be bright !!!
